Lightbulb Potential solution to people leaving PvP in-battle

I like to play random 4v4 arena, and one of the big problems with that form of PvP is people who enter the game, then intentionally leave, either before the battle starts or after they've died. There have been several times when I've ressed someone only to have them leave a split-second afterwards. Very aggravating.

So, my idea of a simple fix would be to prevent the use of the map function while in battle.

An alternate solution would be to enable leaving while in battle, but only by logging out of the game. This would stop or at least reduce the number of casual "droppers."

=HT=Ingram of these forums also had an idea which I thought was pretty good.

While the above idea may be unfair to those who get disconnected unintentionally, I think being disconnected is uncommon enough that it shouldn't be a problem for most players.

Your thoughts?

Aside from the comment about disconnections, I agree 100%. This is a pain especially in the tombs, where your replacement is the imfamous Archer Henchy.

Personally, I think ANet should just find a way to send an electrical shock through the keyboard and mouse.... that would deter people from leaving a match!

Seriously though, I hate this... I've seen people get kill one time in random then just quit. It's a ridiculous thing, and I'd like to see some action on it. If people leave intentionally, they should not only have to log out, they shouldn't be allowed back in for a length of time either... say 5 minutes. That way they can't just jump from group to group doing the same thing. Might stop a few people from doing it if they can't come right back in and play again.

While I can't say that I don't like this idea, I was really aiming for something a little bit less harsh. I think logging out, having to type your password, clicking OK to select your character, and then finally being able to enter a PvP match is bad enough.... Definitely not as quick and easy as pressing "M" and double-clicking a town or arena.

This needs to be put in right away... when someone leaves during pvp they should be punished, like they lose half their faction or something and its given to the people on the team who stayed... if they put this in i would be so rich with faction i would give it away if i could... 7/10 times my group leaves because "omg, like ive been dead for 2 seconds and no one has stoped defending them selves to rez me, i outta here"... nothing is worse than finaly finding that good looking tomb group only to have someone leave because we only have 2 monks instead of 3....

However people could easly find other ways to screw us over, infact ive seen it done... join, sit there, do nothing, say "lol" after loss....

Yeh it is a right pain.. some people do have good reason though and it can't be helped so its punishing some people who aren't intentionally leaving just to piss people off or because you didn't do so well to start.

I don't think this will work as people only leave battles in low level teams and no offence but the chances are if one or 2 are dead and none of theirs then your gonna lose.. they won't lose much faction.. besides.. you don't really get stupidly high amounts of faction for a kill exactly.. +2, you think someone would not leave for a chance of +2 faction?

I don't agree with people leaving without reason.. just thinking of it from the other way.

People use "random" arenas as a place to wait till your guild calls that it has an
open slot for you in tombs or guild v guild. The map travel option is excellent
for that purpose -- frankly in random arena you're matched up every 3-5 minutes
anyway; so this is just... dumb. If someone doesn't want to play, they can just
sit there. Instead, you should just hope that you get the Archer Henchie; at least
she does some damage and uses troll ugent when she gets hurt.

Well, sorry to be one of the "haters", but I DO leave in some situations.

For example, if I'm playing a dual in Ascalon Arena (lvl 10 max unless you gain a lvl while fighting) and I see 1, yes ONE char below lvl 7, I leave. Sure, that player MIGHT be really good, but it does not stray from the fact that having anyone below lvl 7 is kinda on the scary side.

Then your defense is, "It's just a game." or "There are plenty of good players below lvl 7." Well, to ME I don't like a team w/ anyone below lvl 7. STATISTICS show that a team with all chars at or above lvl 7 do far better than a team w/ chars below lvl 7. Then you ask yourself, "Well what about the ppl w/ drok's armor that play below lvl 7?" Let me say again, "STATISTICS show that a team with all chars at or above lvl 7 do far better than a team w/ chars below lvl 7."

Yeah, I'm one of the ppl you hate in any duel below lvl 20. This goes for Yak's Bend as well if you're insane enough to have someone lvl 10 and below.

On the other hand, I stay in the fight MOST OF THE TIME in lvl 20 duels and NEVER leave in HOH (that's just rude and downright wrong). The only time I leave a lvl 20 duel is if a friend is calling, and even then I try to tell that person to "Hold on I'm busy."

So ya, I leave in any arena below lvl 20 if I don't like what I see in the team. Sorry.

Show me the statistics. 94% of statistics are wrong. And then there are 3 kinds of lies: "lies, damn lies, and statistics." If you want to base this mathematically aruging about attribute distribution and health, then I would still disagree with you. Not because I think your math is flawed (which it probably will be), but because it appears you have an inferiority complex. Ooops, Freudian slip.

Anyways, leaving a random arena isn't nearly as bad as leaving a group that was formed beforehand. Random arenas are random, so expect random. Team arenas are team, and there is no STFU in the word Team. Oops.

Statistics show that if you never challenge yourself, you'll never become better.

lvl means nothing to me, i did team arena with a lvl 16 guy (cant remeber his class though, probly a W/Mo based on the fact he was pvp ).. we won a few but then lost, happens with every team lvl 20s or not, what your statistics will not show you is that either way your in for a loss sooner or later...

Leaving = Never, no matter what the situation is

I leave random teams when it's clear that we've lost, but someone is dragging it out. And after it says "Defeated", because I don't feel like watching the enemy team stand around or /dance for 10 seconds before getting returned to the arena.

It would be really neat if someone could think of a way to punish people who leave because a teammate was too low level or some nonsense, without affecting those of us with short attention spans who just don't want to sit around doing nothing for a while.
